Sounds familiar? You are probably a working mom!! I call this the roller coaster ride – sometimes rocky and frightening, but at the same time enjoyable and fun!!
All working moms (and even those that doesn’t work) will tell you that children are like a 2nd job and YES, I agree. The big difference is that this job comes with SO much more rewards and therefore, I would like to think of it as my primary job!!!! Whether you are working by choice or need to work doesn’t really matter in this context, as we are all IN IT and need to make it work the best we can.
I am a working mom, who recently started working fulltime again after the birth of my 2nd child, who is now 5 months old. My son is nearly 2 which leave an 18 month gap between the 2. (I am currently on one of the roughest roller coaster rides, but surprisingly enjoying it so much and would not exchange this experience for anything in this world!!).
To cope with the challenges I am faced with every day as a working mom, I believe that planning is vital to cut out unnecessary stress and to simplify decisions. A strong support system, of which my husband forms a vital part, {I sure do have a lot of respect for single moms who are raising their children alone} ensures my children of a stable and secure environment and when something out of the ordinary or unexpected happens I know that my children are taking good care of when I cannot be there myself. The household of a working mom needs to work like a well-oiled machine in which the mom represents the oil – you don’t always see the work that the oil does in the process, but when taking it away you are left with a squeaky and ineffective machine. While driving to work recently, having all these thoughts of whether I did the right thing to start working again etc. (we all know this guilt trip we all go through from time to time), I saw other women driving around me .…… and I realised – I am not alone in this, there are so many women that are making this work too!! Times and the role of mothers have certainly changed.
I have started this blog to add another element of support to the working mom’s life, writing about my own experiences and ways that I have overcome challenges. Hopefully this will encourage and motivate fellow working moms in their busy lives.
Sometimes I wonder why I am putting myself through this all, is it worth it?? – the constant planning, thinking, rushing? My answer does get confirmed when I get a big hug from my little boy or an innocent, pure smile from my baby girl. My goal is to create a memorable motherhood in which I enjoy each stage in the growing up of my children, and in the process creating a memorable childhood for my children.
