You are called siblings if you have the same parents, and when jumping up a branch on the family tree, you will find cousins. To some this might only be another relative and for others it means great fun. The past weekend I have seen, once again, that blood is thicker than water. We were away on a church conference and Danru and his cousin Wilmar, who he is very fond of, had such a great time together. Wilmar would be the one initiating all the games and Danru would be playing along, enjoying every minute thereof. When Danru opened his eyes after a sleep, the first thing he would say is 'Willa speel' {which means he wants to play with Wilmar} and early in the morning Wilmar would knock on the door still in his PJ's.
It amazed me how these 2 and 7 year old kids could play for hours and it reminded me of the time I was little. My cousin, who is 6 year older than me, used to play school-school with us. Marlene would be the teacher and my sister and I would be the children in her classroom. With her creative personality, she would come up with all sorts of interesting things for us to do and we even had a prize-giving ceremony at the end of each year. It was certainly a highlight for us to visit my aunt as we loved Marlene.
We had difficulty on Sunday to let Danru say a tearful goodbye to Willa. :-)
I think children’s hearts have a special place reserved for their cousins and it should be filled. Danru would have missed out so much this weekend if Wilmar wasn't there. I would describe cousins as being special friends from the same family tree!
