Backpack packed and dressed, Romé was ready for her first school day early on the 1st of October. She will meet new friends and improve her social skills, get the appropriate stimulation and also have loads of fun with the creative activities only teachers can think of.
Arriving at school her teachers awaited her and she was put on the carpet with the rest of the class. I started to give detailed explanations of her routine to the teacher and made sure that they know what her preferences are. {I suppose it is quite normal for any mom :-)}. When I turned around, she looked so comfortable between all the other babies and that made me feel a bit heavy hearted. With a toy already in the one hand, she was clearly enjoying every bit of this new adventure and I left, feeling delighted on the other hand.
Danru was taking his duties as the big brother up seriously. On her first day he asked his teacher how 'Sussa' was doing and they had to take him to her class to ensure him that she was doing fine. Later the week when his class went outside to play, Romé's class was also in the outside play area. He took some toys to her and explained to her, in a 2-year old way, exactly what each toy does and when he leaves her for a while, he told her that he will come back now.... With such a brother, Romé didn't have any difficulty to adapt quickly - she must have known that if someone dares to mess with her, her big brother was near to protect her. :-)
As working parents it is one of the most difficult tasks to decide who and where your child is going to be taken care of when you are at work. You get those days where they don't want to leave you and cling to you with tears and you might start to doubt the place and people they stay at. Usually this is just a stage when they get separation anxiety, but nevertheless it is hard to walk outside while hearing your child scream in the background. My advice is that you need to feel comfortable with the school/place that you choose and trust your instinct when making these choices. Knowing that your kids are happy, enjoying themselves and are taken good care of, is after all, what matters most.
