Birthdays | Choo Choo, Danru is Two

All Aboard! Danru's 2nd Birthday party train is departing! Passing Cold drink-station, Food-station and Coffee-station on its way to its final destination - Sweet-Station. Yes, your guess is right - Train theme!

We decided to invite family and friends and not to have a 100% kid’s party this year. At this age Danru enjoys playing with his older cousins, and having a bunch full of 2-year-olds together……… well, that could lead to a big train smash!

After everybody arrived and Danru had woken up from his nap, we officially started the party with a slideshow of Danru's life over the past 2 years. {My sister prepared it as a surprise for us}. What an emotional moment it was to see his growing up again - From a tiny, helpless baby to this confident, little walking-talking toddler. The guests were welcomed with train tickets on their napkins that also gave them access to the warm and hearty Potjiekos at Food-Station.  Potjiekos is always a good choice, especially on a cold winter's day and preparation time is minimal {just make sure to get it going on time}.

Now on to Sweet-Station - the focus point of the event!  Each guest received an empty brown gift bag to fill up with the homemade treats that were named after elements of the railway to take home.  There were Coal, Train Wagons, Puff Puff’s and Choo Choo’s to compliment the train cake {that kept us up till midnight the previous night}.

After singing to him, Danru blew out both candles and then it was time to dig into the cake!  He started by picking some Smarties from the wagons, Oreo wheels from the engine and then tasted some of the Smurf-blue icing, leaving his mouth all covered in a mixture of rainbow coloured sweetness!!

My great Grandmother’s Big Red Vintage Suitcase was used to arrange the gifts in and Danru's curiosity made him peek into this very interesting object throughout the party. Eventually the whistle blew and he could start open it! He was spoiled by everyone and got a variety of toys that he loved!

The train cake looked like a wreck and the ‘luggage’ were scattered all over the ‘platform’!  The fun-filled day was over and I silently wondered who enjoyed the party most - the adults or the children? We were allowed to feel like kids again for a little while.  The mood was light and joyful and therefore we could forget everything else and be care-free while the train Choo'd along.
