Birthdays | Picnic in a Tent

It is just as icy cold outside as 2 years ago, but inside it is heating up -  Danru is turning TWO today!  Although it is still pitch dark, my husband and I enter his room with a loud "Happy Birthday" melody to announce this exciting event to him.  Not understanding what exactly is happening, he quietly keeps lying down with his eyes closed. The last notes of the song fades away and a big smile appears as he knows this must be something special and he enjoys every moment thereof.

Hugs and kisses and presents are next. As he loves it when my husband builds a tent out of blankets and chairs for them to play underneath, we decided to get him a real tent and a torch. The torch amazed him and we switched off all the lights that he could get the real effect.  And the tent?…… Well, unfortunately it had to wait till after school - you never know how long it will take non-campers to put it up!

With the cold weather and the rush to get to a restaurant in time before the kids get tired,  we decided to have a picnic in Danru's tent that evening with Boerewors rolls, Hot chocolate and Marshmallows instead  The tent was put up right on top of the under floor heating in the TV room and made cosy inside with pillows and blankets - this is the way camping should be!! He enjoyed it a lot and luckily this camping site had cellphone reception, so he could even take all the birthday calls inside the tent.

After a long, adventurous day, Danru couldn't keep his eyes open and we put him into bed.  Feeling exhausted myself, I look at him and think how precious this little boy is and how the past 2 years have gone by in the blink of an eye.  Every effort put into making today special for him was worth it. I am content and blessed to be his MOM!

{This weekend we will be celebrating his Birthday with friends and family, so keep an eye out for my post thereon next week!}
